Designing from the different elements of Ciaran's Jacket

I started to extract details from Ciaran's jacket such as the classic biker jacket collar shape, quilted shoulders and painted on band names to use as starting points for my own designs. To further aid my design process I also started designing from the more symbolic elements such as references to anarchist subcultures, the clothing style of the bands and connotations of the colour 'Navy Blue'.

A study of the classic biker collar shape and quilted shoulder detail

Studying The Stranglers logo and their style identity

Analysing how writing on the jacket can be used as a very direct form of self expression through what you wear. My rough designs read 'Say what you want' and 'Tell em who you are', which I think are the fundamental purpose of dressing rebelliously.

I used the silhouette of anarchist protesters to create designs and the anarchist logo to develop a print.

I thought that Shane MacGowan, the front man of The Pogues had a very interesting face so did some drawings of it to potentially use in a print, along with a sketch of The Pogues Logo and a four leaf clover which symbolises their Irish heritage.

The colour Navy Blue brings up associations with uniform, so I sketched some designs inspired by the structured shape of uniforms, as well as looking at the prints often used in uniforms such as tartan and camouflage.
